1994-1998 Ford Mustang Cobra
Pros :
- Raw V8 performance.
- Great styling still looks good today.
Cons :
- Tight back seat.
- Build quality.
The Cobra, introduced by Ford in '93 specifically to compete with the rising horsepower of GM's Camaro and Firebird V8, accomplished what they set out for at the time. And the styling is considered by some as the best in the Mustang's history.
The 2+2 seater coupe and convertible slightly differ in looks from lesser Mustangs, with a sculpted front bumper, round foglights and "Cobra" engraving on the rear bumper. Although eclipsed by later-genenration Mustangs in terms of horsepower, the '94-'95 Cobra still has a decent amount of punch thanks to its relatively old-school 240 hp OHV V8. An all-new hand-built 305 hp DOHC V8 was offered from '96 onwards. The car's handling can be be described as raw and quite a handful, but good drivers can test its limits once they get the hang of it. Interior looks first-rate, although materials are not of the best quality. A good choice would be a '96 Cobra coupe, since none of the minor engine problems plaguing the old V8 carried over to the new V8.
Build quality is just so-so, but reliability is pretty good, considering it's a Ford. As with all sports cars, look for examples which have not been abused by aggressive drivers.
