Yes I know what you are saying; Skoda and performance are not a well-known mix. Well in the affordable range of automobiles they cannot be ignored. Skoda entered the world of World Rally Championship series with the Octavia in 1997. The new Octavia model is built on the experience gained from within the Skoda rally team and from the VW parent group. The Octavia is offered with state-of-the-art petrol engines with modern direct-injection technology, as well as turbo-diesel engines (TDI) based on pump-nozzle injection systems. You can choose from four petrol engines with outputs ranging from 55 to 110 kW (74 to 147.5 hp) and two diesel versions with outputs of 77 and 103 kW (103 to 138 hp). The new dual automatic DSG transmission is offered an option. The front wheel drive chassis is fitted with McPherson front struts and on the rear is a new multi-element rear axle. The performance version of the Octavia is called the vRS. The Octavia vRS is Skoda's attempt to broaden appeal and gain more interest amongst younger buyers. The vRS is powered by the same 134 kW (180 hp), 1.8-litre turbo engine found in the Seat Leon 20VT, Volkswagen Golf GTi and Audi TT. The vRS has lower suspension than that of the standard Octavia, 17-inch alloy wheels, a large rear spoiler, stainless steel exhaust, special badges and green brake calipers. Top speed is 235 kph (146 mph).
