More McLaren P1 details revealed
McLaren gave out more details of their next new model, the P1, in a private event in Beverly Hills. The P1 will be officially released by the end of the year.
A fully functional prototype was on display at the event, the same Volcano Orange one displayed at the Paris Motor Show last year. The windows had black tints, to ensure the interior cannot be seen ahead of its revelation at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
It will have the same carbon-fibre tub used in the McLaren MP4-12C. Engine is expected to be the same turbocharged 3.8L V8 putting out close to 800 bhp. A Formula One style KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) will provide small boosts in power. It will be rear-wheel drive.
McLaren will sell only 500 models of the P1 at a cost of about $1.2 million.
