2013 Subaru BRZ Concept STI revealed
The Toyota FT-86 gets all the attention, but the reality is that this new rear-wheel-drive sports car is a joint venture between Toyota and Subaru, in the interests of cutting costs. This is the first time that the Subaru version is getting the spotlight, to be shown at upcoming auto shows.
The 2013 Subaru BRZ, seen here in “Concept STI” form, is nearly identical to the FT-86, except for some minor styling differences and that big rear wing. One would’ve expected the “STI” version at least to have a turbocharged 300 hp engine and all-wheel-drive, but the mechanicals are identical to the FT-86, with a 200 hp 2.0L engine, good for an “estimated” 170 lb-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual or automatic. Their target weight is under 2500 lbs for a 0-60 mph time of 6 seconds, which remains to be seen.
