Leaked information confirms what has been rumored for almost a year now. The 2011 Ford Mustang GT is receiving an all-new 5.0L V8, marking the return of the Mustang “5.0” badge that was last seen in the mid 1990s.

The new aluminum-block 5.0L V8 will apparently make 412 hp at 6500 rpm, with 390 lb-ft of torque and fuel economy rated at 25 mpg.

Also available will be either a 6-speed automatic or a new 6-speed manual gearbox. Weighing in less than 10 lbs heavier than the outgoing 2010 Mustang GT with the 4.6L V8, the 2011 version also gets better brakes and 18-inch alloys, while Brembo brakes and 19-inch wheels are optional. The Mustang GT continues to retain its rear live-axle suspension.

The 2011 Mustang 5.0 will debut at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month, alongside the updated 2011 Mustang V6.
